​​The Second Memaryat International Conference (MIC 2018)

Architecture and Urban Resiliency, 18-19 April 2018

Effat College of Architectural and Design​, at Effat University, invites all subject concerned scholars, academics, practitioners, policy makers and local and international institutions officials to share their experiences and thoughts in The Second Memaryat International Conference (MIC 2018) Architecture and Urban Resiliency to be held at Effat University, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 18th to 19th of April 2018. The conference focuses on the exploration of the multifaceted paradigms of the built-up resiliency which are complex in nature and involve multiple-terms effects.

The conference revolves around two central themes constitute focal points for participants to initiate networking, workshops, roundtable discussions and inspirational presentations:

Theme One:   Resilient Buildings and Structures: Challenges and Solutions

Focusing on the premeditated resilient Architectural and structural design approaches, experiences, and theoretical thoughts of different buildings' functions and types in response to vulnerabilities of multi-dimensional challenges detrimentally affecting life quality of users. The theme may include the following topics:

  • Architectural, structural, and construction challenges and resiliency

  • Natural disasters and Environmental change: challenges and innovations in Architectural Design, Structural Designs, and Construction techniques.

  •  Man-Made crises, preparedness, and solutions.

  • Buildings and structures resilient management systems

  • Innovations and leaned lessons in buildings and structures' crisis resiliency & disaster preparedness.

  • Architectural Conservation and Environmental/ natural/man-made risks.

Theme two:  Resilient Cities: Challenges and Solutions

Focusing on the effective planning and management solutions for cities and urban agglomerations, finding measures of managing resilient communities, and how to establish management strategies and long-term adaptation measures and mitigation, resulting in better practices of protection for communities. It may include the following topics:

  • Planning for resiliency: Natural Crises and Environmental Challenges

  • Resilient Urban Design

  • The Economic and Social Dimensions of Resiliency in Developed and less-Developed countries

  • Managing Urban Resiliency: obstacles, chances, and potential courses

  • Evaluating Cities' Vulnerability to Natural and Man-made Disasters

  • Climate-Based City planning /Urban Design  

  • Incorporating resilient city systems in smart cities growth.

  • Internet of Things as a tool of city resiliency

  • Expanding Urban Officials Capacity to Mange Cities' systems' resiliency

  • Wars, Terrorism, and Mass groups mobilization: implications on city planning and Urban design.

  • Real- Time emergency Situations and Response: City systems and Services.

  • Urban Conservations and correlation to risk management

Submission Format and Guidelines

Authors are requested to submit their papers electronically.  This should be done through Easychair, if you have used this system before, you may use the same login details.   If this is your first time using EasyChair, you will need to create an EasyChair Account athttps://easychair.org/account/signup.cgi.   Upon completion of registration, you will receive a notification email from EasyChair, after which you will need to log in and submit your paper in pdf format.
