PRINCESS LOLOWAH AL FAISAL

IL-HRH

HRH s a e n f i women's rights. She is a shining light in the mission to empower the women in the Kingdom, have them flourish through education, and have their contributions to society recognized.

Her Royal Highness Princess Lolowah Al Faisal, like her mother Queen Effat (God rest her soul), has dedicated her life to improving the welfare and education of women in Saudi Arabia.

From 1990, Princess Lolowah played a fundamental role in assisting Queen Effat to supervise the Dar Al Hanan School, and later, helped found Effat College in 1999.

From raising funds and developing the curriculum, to overseeing construction and supervising the hiring of faculty and staff, Princess Lolowah has been at the heart of all phases of Effat’s founding and continued development.

“Students, alumnae, parents, faculty, staff, partners, and friends, you are an ongoing testament to that which unwavering dedication, hard work, and faith can accomplish in the realm of education and development.”

Honorary Degree for the Princess Like Effat, Mount Holyoke College is an all-women’s institution. And like Effat, it draws its inspiration from a pioneer whose vision and dedication made its success possible. The first of the prestigious ‘Seven Sisters’ colleges in the United States, Mount Holyoke was founded in 1837 by Mary Lyon, a schoolteacher from Massachusetts. Beginning in 1999, its faculty members and administrators played a consultative role in Effat’s development, and ties continue between the two schools today.

In May 2009, Mount Holyoke bestowed HRH Princess Lolowah Al Faisal with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, for her hard work to advance the standing of women in the KSA.

In 2011, she was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering by Tokai University, Japan, for promoting the international development of women in science and technology, and in recognition of Effat University being the first to offer engineering degrees to the women of Saudi Arabia. The Princess was further awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 2013 by the University of Salford UK, in recognition of her lifelong dedication to improving the welfare of women in Saudi Arabia and her outstanding contribution to education.
