Effat University is committed to protecting the environment by adopting an environmentally friendly Waste Disposal Program. The University recycles all commonly used materials such as mixed papers, cardboards, plastic containers, metal cans, toners/cartridges and used oils. All members of the University must adhere to the University's recycling mission and comply with its requirements.
- Recycling Collection: The University provides and maintains recycling bins throughout the campus. Waste materials are collected in color-coded trash bags with proper labels: paper-metal-plastic and waste. This distinction in bag color and label helps in differentiating between recycling and trash.
- Commingled Single-Stream Recycling: Mixed papers (including white office paper, colored paper, post-it notes, newspaper, phone books, magazines, and glossy or highly-inked papers) and cardboard must be placed in the paper container.
- Plastic: Bags, plastic cups and all other related plastic-made materials must be placed in the Plastic container.
- Aluminum/Tin/Metal: Cans must be placed in the appropriately designated Metal containers and must be free of residual food and other contaminants.
- Waste Garbage: Food left-overs and non-biodegradable materials must be disposed in the Waste container.
- Offices are provided with small waste bins to collect commingled materials. If books or cardboard do not fit in receptacles, or if there is a large quantity, General Services will pick up the items upon request. Requests must be made through Help Desk.
- Toner Cartridges. Printer and copier toner cartridges should be returned to the supplier for recycling in the original packing, where possible. If returning it directly to the supplier is not possible, a request must be submitted to the Facilities Helpdesk to request pick-up of the items.
- Electronic Equipment and Batteries: Electronic equipment (eg computers, monitors, printers, faxes, copiers, plasma screens, etc) and batteries containing hazardous materials must be recycled in accordance with the Equipment Recycling Policy or the Battery Recycling and Disposal Program as appropriate and in accordance with local regulations.
- Cooking Grease/Oil and Used Motor Oil. Used cooking grease/oil must be disposed of by putting it into a designated receptacle with lid. The receptacle lid is to be closed at all times when not in use. Any refined, petroleum-based or synthetic motor oil that has been used and is no longer useful (ie 'used oil') must be collected and made available to the recycling company.
