Dr. Ahmed M. Refaat is an Assistant Professor in the Architecture department, Effat University. He also works as an Associate professor – on leave- in the faculty of Engineering, Architecture Department, Assiut University. He got his bachelor's and master's degrees from Assiut University while he got his Ph.D. from Manchester University in the field of Architecture and Urban Design.
Academically, Dr. Ahmed has considerable experience in teaching and supervising under- and postgraduate students. His research work focuses on the morphology of the spatial structure of cities and the factors that propel their spatial transformations and the achievement of walkable, livable, and sustainable cities and neighborhoods. Using space syntax techniques, he conducted the spatial analysis of many cities and neighborhoods in Egypt, KSA, and Italy.
Professionally, he worked on several projects in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. He won several awards in Egypt and KSA. For example, The First award prize for designing A residential neighborhood SAMAYA competition, Dammam, KSA (2021) (teamwork), The Second-place winner of the development of Abu-Makhroq competition, Riyadh, KSA (2020) (teamwork), and The First award prize for designing the engineering syndicate branch in Assiut City, Assiut, Egypt (2012) (teamwork).
