Saudi Arabia 2030 Vision
is built around three themes: a vibrant society, a thriving economy and an
ambitious nation. The first theme: A Vibrant Society represents a society with
Strong Roots, Fulfilling Lives, and Strong Foundations. This first theme is
vital to achieving the Vision and it acts as a strong foundation for economic
prosperity, developing KSA cities to offer high quality of living, and achieve
environmental sustainability.
The Smart Building
Research Center (SBRC) works under the overarching framework of the first theme and aims to offer scientific and
practical solutions to the pressing problem of “Climate Change” in the environmental conditions of
our time, in the urbanization of future cities and communities, and in the building construction
methods and possibilities. The contribution of SBRC will fill a significant gap
in the scientific discourse of this area in KSA and will draw the center’s main
goal and objectives, as well as the formation of its structure.
Vision
The
Smart Building Research Center aspires to be one of the competitive research
centers in KSA that produces highly interdisciplinary research output and
contributes nationally and internationally in developing the knowledge and
enriching the profession in the fields of the built environment.
Mission
The The Smart Building Research Center aims to
establish qualified research teams and equipped research labs that will provide
highly interdisciplinary research environment to enable the researchers to
produce high quality research and to attract internal and external funded
projects. The research activities, research output, and commercialized products
of the SBRC will contribute internationally in developing the knowledge and
will enrich nationally the professional consultancy in the field of the built
environment.
Goal
Contribute to the achievement
of the KSA Vision 2030 target to provide a Vibrant Society with Strong Roots,
Fulfilling Lives, and Strong Foundations by producing highly interdisciplinary
research activities, outputs, and commercialized products.
Objectives
- Provide
scientific solutions to the environmental conditions of our time,
- Contribute
in the urbanization of future cities and communities, and
- Offer
smart clarifications to the building construction methods and
possibilities.
The Center Structure and Research Interest
SBRC includes three research laboratories and three supporting
unites/laboratories. Research interests within SBRC are similarly broad, and include
sustainable behavior, climate change economics, building information modelling
(BIM), and sustainable cities. We apply a variety of disciplinary perspectives
to sustainability-related questions including environmental psychology,
management, economics and construction research.
The SBRC Labs are
Main Labs
-
Environmental Design of Buildings Lab (EDoB Lab.)
- Urban Design Lab (UD Lab)
- Construction and Material Testing Lab (CMT Lab)
Supporting Units and Labs
-
Fabrication Lab (Fab Lab)
- Media Lab. (Print/Scanning Unit)
- Virtual Environment Lab (VE Lab)
