Dr. Mohammad Khalid is assistant professor and coordinator of Islamic Studies at Effat University, Jeddah. He holds a PhD in Islamic/Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Manchester. Dr. Khalid has taught a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Manchester and Effat. His research interest includes pre-modern intellectual history of Islam, Qur'an hermeneutics, and Sunni legal theory. One of his earliest research collaborations involved analysing the modernist translation and interpretation of the Qur'an for Brill. Ever since, Dr. Khalid has worked on a variety of projects, including a monograph on the development of Hanafi-Sunni legal theory in the late Ottoman era, a series of seminars at the University of Manchester on pre-modern and modern approaches to the Study of the Qur`an' and the translations of certain nineteenth-century Sunni-Hanafi legal treatises. Some of his recent publications include a book chapter on the Islamic notion of 'co-operation', a paper on the contributions of the Muslim World League towards promoting inter-faith dialogue and a co-authored paper on the linguistic reception of the Qur'an. Dr. Khalid has attended and contributed to several international conferences on a variety of themes pertinent to Islamic Studies. He is often invited to guide and examine MA and PhD students at international universities. He is a regular reviewer for many reputable journals, advises a number of organizations, including Sawt al-Hikmah, (OIC) and holds a number of professional certifications and memberships, including 'Certified Shari'a Adviser and Auditor' (AAOIFI) and 'Fellow, Higher Education Academy' (Advance HE, UK)'. Dr. Khalid is currently leading a joint research project on the modes of Qur'anic recitations and their impact on Qur'an translations.
