Psychology program has a long term academic partnership with the Department of Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University of USA. The partnership involves developing and reviewing the curriculum in consultation with the colleagues from CMU, benchmarking our learning and teaching strategies with those of the prestigious institution, carry out collaborative research, and have continuous communication between the faculty and students of the two institutions.
The Bachelor of Science degree program in Psychology with concentrations in clinical psychology and social psychology, requires students to have a strong background in basic sciences, mathematics, critical thinking skills, and command over the English language, essential for optimal attainment of the academic goals and program learning outcomes. The curriculum offered by the Department of Psychology consists of several components that give students the opportunity to build a solid foundation in psychology, obtain field experience in the mental health, social and community services settings, and gain insight into the professional and ethical standards required for the practice in various sub-fields of psychology.
At the early years of your academic journey at Bachelor of Science in Psychology, you will take General Education Program (GEP), attributed to the Liberal Arts – American style education. The (GEP) covers arts and humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and technological studies to help you gain insight into varied critical learning skills, investigate essential branches of knowledge, and develop appreciation of diversity and change across time, culture, and national boundaries.
Students will be required to work individually and in-groups to complete projects to develop collaboration skills, and will demonstrate oral and writing communication skills in various formats such as group discussion, debate, lectures, report writing and completing research papers.
Students concentrating in Clinical Psychology will be introduced to important topics in the clinical psychology field, such as psychopathology, psychological interventions, psychology of ageing, child clinical psychology, psychopharmacology, and ethics in research and practice. Students in the Social Psychology area will be acquainted with subjects such as social factors and wellbeing, stress, coping and mental health, attitudes and persuasion, and research methods in social psychology. Students will obtain the necessary knowledge to understand the impact of theories and applications of clinical and social psychology in a global, social, and environmental context.
