About the Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Effat College of Humanities at Effat University offers an innovative practice-based Digital Media & Communication Program (DM&C), which equips students with artistic and technical proficiency in digital storytelling, content creation and management, multimedia analysis, design and user experience, across a wide range of platforms. Modules in media and communication, writing, technology, and marketing will prepare students for careers in the fast-changing digital media world.

Because communication is involved in most professions, the Digital Media & Communication Program is valuable. It graduates specialists who create engaging content for various platforms, like TV, radio and YouTube, to assist in growing an audience. The graduates will also be able to evaluate user experience, manage projects, and use emerging technologies in the fields of digital media and communication.

The graduates of this Program will also provide the market with much needed skills. According to national surveys, communication, creative thinking, digital literacy and critical thinking are the most frequently sought-after skills by employers in private and public sectors and in academia. These skills are essential components of this Program.

The Program consists of 126 credits, which span over four years. The main areas are: Writing, Media, Communication, Cultural Studies, Marketing and Technology. The students are required to do a 200-hour internship and a capstone project, which will ensure the students' preparedness for the market.​

Vision

The Digital Media and Communication Program aspires to be a center for innovative digital media and communication production to serve the common good, participate actively in the community, and advocate for an ethical, diverse, and inclusive digital world.

Mission

The Digital Media and Communication Program graduates innovative, ethical and multifaceted professionals who create content for current and emerging communication media platforms. They apply liberal arts ideals critically and strategically to foster a thriving media and communications sector and help build sustainable societies.​

Goals:

  1. Ensure the DM&C achieves its mission and actively contributes to the fulfilment of the nation's 2030 vision.

  2. Provide a positive and productive work environment by ensuring effective leadership and transparent governance; and seek national and international accreditation.

  3. Sustain academic excellence and encourage students' creativity and innovation through providing learning resources and optimizing their use.

  4. Attract and retain students who will become digital media and communication professionals and leaders in their communities.

  5. Recruit and retain diverse faculty with professional experience and provide them with opportunities for creative growth.

  6. Provide students with state-of–the-art labs and other facilities and diversify the Program's sources of income, optimizing budget use.

  7. Generate creative and innovative content to tackle challenges in the fast-paced communication and digital world.

  8. Develop and strengthen the Program's national and international connections to promote intercultural communication through digital media platforms.​

Educational Objectives

The educational objectives of the DM&C Program are to:

  1. Become skilled in artistic and technical aspects of digital storytelling, content creation, editing and publishing.
  2. Become skilled in intercultural digital communication, negotiation and professional speaking.
  3. Become proficient in producing, critiquing and managing various media platforms: journalism, radio, television, podcasting and social media.
  4. Become a professional in digital marketing, project management, branding and creating start-ups. 
  5. Become proficient in emerging technologies and user experience in the fields of digital media and communication.  ​

  • Know the artistic and technical aspects of digital storytelling, content creation, digital communication, and professional speaking
